Magical Moments ..

11:37 PM 10 Comments
Beautiful isn't it ..
and the best birthday gift wouldn't you agree ...??

So, last Saturday as I turned a year older this is what hubs and me did..We drove down to Sunset Cliffs Blvd in San Diego to witness this, the miracle of nature we so take for granted in our day to day lives ...
It was amazing how as the Sun began its descent, scores of people turned up , some with coffee, others with soft drinks , some with their beach chairs and others with their beach mats ..like there was a party thrown by Nature and everyone invited ..
For once it didn't seem to matter who you were , where you came from , what you did ..no one cared ..everyone was there for the simple reason ..
to watch the glorious performance of Nature ..
to watch the fiery orange slowly soften and embrace the indigo of the night ..

and me , well I watched too , sitting beside the man who I so love ,
and I marvelled ..

Someone rightly said,
"It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream."

I am still dreaming ..
I know the best is yet to be ..

Here's to life and the best laid plans ;-)

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
I am sorry I didnt mean to yell :P but I am still so happy ..the holidays were good and the New year's begun on just the kind of positive note I wanted.. Also, if Day 1 is any indicator of how this year is going to turn out , boy oh boy am I in for a crazy year ...

So day one of the New year kicked off with us heading to Morro bay , a 3 and a half hr drive from where we live ..
or maybe not ..
Actually it started with complains of how I never wake up on time, almost never get ready on time and therefore there was no point in driving the 200 odd mile coz it was way too late.. which by the way if you're married, you just know that the madder he gets, the more you love him ;) ( sometimes the loving takes a while though :P) and more importantly that the destination is not quite as important as the ride even if it comes with its share of pee breaks :P

So with all the excitement, we drove on but guess what, we never made it to Morro Bay coz by the time we reached Pismo beach ,the bright sunny morning turned into this chilly rainy afternoon.. Our destination was another 25 miles but it seemed like we had reached ..The beach beckoned ..and a magical sight it was , watching the rain dancing on the ocean waves ..feeling it fall on my face and kiss my lips as I walked hand in hand..

Thats how life is too , isn't it ?
You make plans for life and sometimes along the way life has plans for you ..
and to truly enjoy the life that is waiting for you, sometimes, its best to let go of the life you've planned, to take a risk, play along who knows what lies beyond..

and Mark Twain rightly said,

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover. "

and I am going to do just that ..What are you exploring , dreaming and discovering this year ?

Viva Las Vegas

6:20 PM 3 Comments
I havent even managed to share and write about my trip to Vegas and Grand canyon and there's already more in store , like our day trip to the San Diego Zoo this Saturday ..and even though I am torn ..its going to be first things first so here I go ..

The morning of 3rd July dawned at 4.30 am ..it was a groggy morning sure but not for long ..soon we were on our way to Sin City ..the 5-6 hr drive didn't seem to take that long despite the fuel stop for the stomach and the car and we made it just in time around 11.30 am ..
We had 4 hrs to check in and the only thing we could do to make optimal use of the time we had ,was to do some shopping :D :D ..Well even though im smiling now,by the end of the shopping extravaganza i had no reason to, coz I bought me nothing :( and believe you me thats a rare occassion ..one that hubs enjoyed celebrating by shopping to his heart's content :P ..jokes apart I enjoyed playing the role of the magnanimous ( content ) big sister whose job for the day was to pamper and spoil her younger sister and judging by the no. of bags we had in less than 4 hours , I could tell I did a good job :D

And then it was time to check it to our hotel ..
I've been to Vegas twice before and stayed at the Venetian and Wynn Resort ..so this time we tried Aria Resort & Casino located on the southern part of the strip between Bellagio and Monte Carlo ..Aria opened up in December last year and in the six odd months that its been running its already known to be redefining or setting a new benchmark in the standard of luxury ..and that had me curious coz for me the benchmark was the Venetian. Ever since I've stayed there , I've e
nded up drawing comparisons .. In fact having said that I'll confess I enjoyed staying at the Venetian more than Wynn too ..
And even though this post is seemingly coming across like a hotel review now.. certainly not intended , I cant help but share what I liked / disliked about the hotel..
The Room - On the 36th floor , tastefully decorated with lots of brown satin and leather and overlooked the strip ( a clincher ) ,
the bed was soft ( maybe too soft ? - even by plush standards ) ..
the one touch in room integrated technology that lets you customise everything ( Impressive and Bravo !! )
The Bathroom - the shower and bath tub share a single glass enclosure ( my favorite part :D )
the toiletries .. definitely an improvement area ( SUCKS !! )
I guess for anyone who's heading to Vegas and thinking about Aria resort , this should suffice as a heads up ..any more questions can be directed to my inbox and I'll be happy to answer them for you :)

Coming back to what happened after we checked in , well a quick shower ( an hour :) for me and 2 for my sister :P ) and an ensemble change and we were ready to set the town on fire .. dousing it intermittently with tequila and Mai Tai's :D

Lucky for me

The fun had just begun
and it was only the night of Day one ..

Lucky for you

There's no reason to be blue
'coz tomorrow's all about the events of Day two ..

Easter Weekend @ Palm Springs ..ver 2.0

11:39 PM 4 Comments
Our Day 2 began with an absolutely sumptuous breakfast at the hotel's restaurant ..it was cooked to order and included juice , scrambled eggs , freshly baked muffins , fresh fruit and coffee ..
I'd much rather have soaked up the sun after such a perfect start to the day ..Instead , we were off to our next destination .. The Joshua Tree National Park..
Straddling the San Bernandino County and Riverside county, the park covers a land area of approx 800,000 acres and includes parts of both the Mojave desert and the Colorado desert ..

If you look at the map below you'll see that the park has 3 entrances ...you can choose to enter through the Joshua tree or Twenty nine Palms entrance and exit through Cotton wood ..thats a distance of approx 60 miles and takes approx 4 hours , however we chose to drive from the Joshua tree visitor center to Twenty nine palms or Oasis visitor center , a distance of 34 miles with an extra 7 miles if you include a trip to Keys view ..
The Joshua tree park is named after the Joshua tree found in abundance in this park ..and so naturally it was our first stop ..after all it meant a picture together right ?
The next stop on the list was Hidden Valley where i enjoyed climbing up all the way , then enjoyed feeling on top of the world though having said that i must admit ,the feeling lasted only till i was up there ..coz the real challenge was climbing down ..
so i did what i did best , enjoyed and captured the panoramic view for as much time as i could and then literally rolled down landing with a thud . i guess you could ignore that detail ..
Next on the list came Keys View, where on a clear day the view extends beyond Salton sea to Mexico and its well worth the additional 20 min drive ..however as luck would have it , it wasn't a clear day however we did manage sweeping views of the Coachella valley and Palm Springs even though it was hazy ..
Then came the huge and varied rock formations that dot the entire landscape at the park ..the very first being Cap Rock , named after the flat rock that is perched at its top like a cap ..
and Jumbo Rocks ..for their sheer size
and last but not the least on the list was Skull Rock which is probably one of the most photographed rock formations ..you can see why ..
The loop was almost complete and by now, i was in complete sync with the description below ..
" For all its harshness, the desert is a land of surprising variety and complexity, a land of extreme fragility. "
In other words , whether you have a few hours or few days , Joshua Tree has something for everyone ..
Needless to say , i thoroughly enjoyed my visit ..The park is a different world from the inside ..its nature at its very best and with that i headed back to the hotel ..

but don't you go anywhere and if you do be sure to come back tomorrow coz there's still a day before the weekend ends ..so stay tuned !!

Easter Weekend @ Palm Springs

5:48 PM 10 Comments
I have a hangover and before you jump to any conclusions i must tell you its not from drinking ..i had yet another awesomest weekend ..and even though there was a lot of driving involved i can tell you we had quite an amazing time ..
well it was easter weekend and surprisingly hubs was off from work too , so off we went to Palm Springs , a 2 hour drive from LA that can stretch to 4-5 hrs if you're caught in traffic..Luckily for us ,we started early and made it well under 2.5 hrs around 11 am ..
If i had planned the itinerary , we would have had four hours to kill before check in but since it was Hubs at work , my Mr.organized had already booked tickets for our first stop , the Palm Springs Aerial tramway ..
If you haven't been on the tramway , then you should know that the Palm Springs aerial tramway is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world and ferries 80 passengers at one go ..the elevation being from 2500 odd ft to 8500 odd ft with a temperature difference of almost 30 degrees ..all this in approx 10 minutes ..
The ride up was positively thrilling, the rotating tramcar gives you a panoramic 360 degree view but even more breathtaking was the view from up above ..it was non pareil ..
on one side lay the desert
on the other side the scenic mountains, trees and lots of snow ..
We spent around 2 hours up at the mountain station walking through the Mount San jacinto State Park , clicking pictures , eating at the ala carte restaurant and the food was quite delicious esp the spicy chicken soup ...mmmm..

All in all ..my rating - this is an absolute must visit attraction in Palm springs..

Then at 4pm we checked in at the Villa Royale Inn , recently named one of the " West's best small inn's " by Sunset magazine ..and the minute you step inside , you know why ..

This is the entrance
One of the two courtyards leading up to our room
and finally our room
Isn't it marvellous ?
I loved it and i sure hope, i get the opportunity to stay again :)
and that concludes Day 1 of our trip .. more on our road trip tomorrow ..
See ya :)

Love byte # 14 - A Perfect Getaway

10:43 PM 2 Comments
Love is recharging your batteries together ..and so here I am finally in Carmel after a 5 hour drive recharging and rejuvenating myself ..
Its been quite an eventful day so far but the highlight of my day most definitely was the visit to Lover's Point ..rightly in sync with Valentine's day ..
I'd love to describe the breathtaking beauty of this place but that will have to wait coz I am more excited about tomorrow when the day begins with taking the 17 mile drive at dawn and unfortunately that calls for sleeping early ..
So while I'm gonna hit the sack, I hope you've had an awesome Valentine and celebrations continue well into the night ..
Cheers and good nite..
