Love Byte#8—Love is my life

Guest Post by Alinka Johnson of Linka Living

I am really excited to guest post for My Reflections. I love the sincerity of this blog, because most blogs lack heart and Priya’s got it. I consider it an honor to be a part of the love byte series.

When I was asked to write about what love is to me…. I drew a complete blank. I mean to think I write every day for my site Linka Living and I couldn’t think of one word for what love is to me. Then I began to think about what I love the most. And it came to me…

Photobucket

Love is waking up to my son peaking out of his crib
Love is the three of us lying in bed on Sunday mornings
Love is honesty
Love is after dinner washing dishes and the husband cleaning the counters
Love is sharing the best inside jokes
Love is putting him first even when I feel selfish
Love is being strong enough to fight
Love is being weak enough to be protected
Love is reaching the point where you don’t argue but discuss
Love is saying I love you just because
Love is saying what I don’t want to hear because I need to hear it
Love is leaving the house with Gerber squash and peas in my hair
Love is learning from the past and growing in the future
Love is tricking the husband into changing all the stinky pampers
Love is reading Psalm 118 every morning for family worship
Love is leaning on each other through hard times instead of pushing away
Love is putting the little one to sleep only to miss him all night

Love is everything, every day, every moment with the loves of my life.

I never knew what real love was until they showed me. I never knew the sacrifice, the joy, the complete peace of unconditional love until God blessed my soul with my husband and son.

Love is a lesson, a journey, a life—my life

Love Byte # 7 - Something to talk about..

11:51 AM 5 Comments

Its been a fantastic week having blogger friends like Bella , Katie , Joanie and non-blogger friends like my mom and Aneesh rock the love byte series .. and I hope you're enjoying reading as much as me coz all I can say is that the excitement has only begun, as has week 2 ..so keep reading , sharing , spreading this daily dose of love ..

Here's todays love byte from moi :)

"Marriage is hard... Just two people slogging through the shit, year after year, getting older, changing.

It's a fucking marathon, okay? So, sometimes, you know, you're together for so long, that you just...

You stop seeing the other person.

You just see weird projections of your own junk.

Instead of talking to each other, you go off the rails and act grubby and make stupid choices...

A poignant scene from the movie “The Kids are all right "

A movie we watched a couple of days back, raison d’etre - Annette Bening won the Golden Globes.. and maybe just coz we love watching movies , anyhow ;)

True that movies are the great escape to life but also true that movies sometimes mirror / replicate life .. coz haven't you on more than one occasion found yourself identifying with the movie , the character or the situation ?

I know I have and this was one of those, because even after the movie ended, these powerful words stayed with me..

I know I have because I've been through this ...and its true not just for marriage but every relationship ..

When you've shared and bared a whole lot of yourself in any relationship, you begin to take the other person for granted and vice versa and sometimes that leads to things you know you shouldn't have done, words that were better left unsaid..

Love is about communication and while I've written about this before, I believe in it more than ever.. because it truly alters your relationship..

If you're able to speak your mind , your heart,if you're willing to talk things through with each other , if you’re willing to put in the effort , even if it’s hard to begin with .. believe you me , you'll emerge through even hell unscathed ..

because you've found something that has the magic to pull you through , to make your relationship work..

Let the fact that hubs has nothing to share with me , when he's back home after a day @ work coz ,well, all days @ work for men are just work , nothing extra-ordinary ..

Let this fact not blind you at all ,

coz when it comes to talking..real stuff..not even I can shut him up ;) :D

Love Byte # 6 - Love is the Devil ..

Now what would love be without a man's perspective ..right ?
So this post is from my buddy Aneesh .. someone who was a great colleague to work with and who is and will always be a wonderful friend ..
Enjoyyy :))

First off, a big thank you to Priya for being crazy enough to publish my thoughts on love! She manages by far the most interesting blog around, and it’s always been a pleasure following her introspections on a variety of matters.

The previous love bytes encompass love almost in its entirety, and are virtually an impossible act to follow! I believe that ‘when it’s already been said, say something else’, so here are a few random, albeit melancholic views on the subject:

  • No human being on Earth is incapable of love – it is inherent in us all. Despite all mankind’s faults (and there are plenty), it is our ability to selflessly love another human being that makes us a species worthy of redemption.
  • Love is virtually invulnerable. It endures even the death or distance of a loved one. Its only real adversary unfortunately – is man.
  • Man is capable of love, but often has no idea about what it means. Relationships formed in a hotbed of passion rivalling that of a famous Shakespearean play increasingly meet with a tragic end, simply because the so-called ‘love’ that once existed has now ‘disappeared’ or ‘faded away’. Several couples now fall ‘in and out of love’ within a matter of years, months or even days (tabloid romances bear testament to these unfortunate stats). It is clear now that love is no longer a powerful word that it is meant to be, and it is often misused by people who cannot comprehend the feelings and actions that accompany it.
  • Love is indeed a beautiful phenomenon; however the love exchanged between two people is rarely identical. Love between two people is not necessarily expressed in the same manner, nor does a person always meet a loved one’s expectations as to how his / her love should be expressed. Love is not always felt towards one other at the same time either. These disparities along with many more culminate in the sad truth that people in general are more often than not hurt the most by the ones they love rather than the ones who wish them ill, regardless of the motives behind their loved one’s actions.
  • We all without exception love the key players in our own little universe – our spouses, our parents, our children, our pets, and so on. There is thus more than a tinge of irony in the fact that much of the world’s problems today are borne out of the absence of love amongst our fellowmen. Nations to this day wage war with each other, innumerable atrocities are committed against one another on a daily basis, and it is acts of hate and not love that are streamed to us each day via a plethora of media. Needless to say, that if man loved his fellow man (and not materialism); the world could be a very different place.
We know of love. We are capable of love. We have even experienced love. But can we replicate love beyond a single bond between two individuals or beings which is so revered over the bigger picture to this day? The answer to that question will dictate where the human race goes from here.

Given that blogs shouldn’t end on such a pensive note, I would like to share something I think about immediately when the word ‘love’ comes to my mind – it’s an excerpt of dialogue from the movie ‘Bruce Almighty’ involving a conversation between Bruce and God. What was said truly describes what love means to me.

“God: Grace. You want her back?

Bruce: ……..no. I want her to be happy, no matter what that means. I want her to find someone

who will treat her with all the love she deserved from me. I want her to meet someone who will

see her always as I do now……through Your eyes.

God: Now THAT'S a prayer!”
